Advertising is ‘the act’ or ‘practice of calling public attention’ to one’s product / service / need … OR a form of communication for marketing and used to encourage or persuade an audience to continue or take some new action. Audience could be a viewers / readers / listeners OR a specific group. Advertising is often confused with marketing, promotion or public relations (PR).
There is a two basic groups of advertisers with fundamental approaches:
Commercial who often seek to generate increased consumption of their products / services through “branding,” which involves associating a product name or image with certain qualities in the minds of consumers.
Non-commercial advertisers who spend money to advertise items other than a consumer product / service include interest groups, religious organizations, political parties / governmental agencies.
Advertising models worldwide spend $467 billion USD whereby one quart of that sum belongs to domestic United States.
